Boise, March 13, 2009 - Boise Police arrested one man on drug trafficking charges after officers found more than one pound of marijuana in his vehicle. The arrest followed a citizen call reporting possible marijuana use in a parked car.
Arrested: Alexander A. Howard, 22, Boise
Charge: Trafficking Marijuana (F)
What Happened: Boise Police received a call from a concerned citizen who had driven past a car parked at Vista and Airport Way approx 8:00 p.m. Thursday night and saw what the citizen believed to be marijuana use by occupants inside the vehicle.
Officers with the Metro Violent Crimes Task Force responded and confirmed suspicious activity. Boise Police patrol officers then approached. A Boise Police drug K9 alerted to the presence of illegal drugs inside the car. Officers searched the car and found Howard to be in possession of one-pound, nine ounces of marijuana, along with an electronic scale. The marijuana was found in a backpack that belonged to the suspect. Howard was arrested on the above charge.
Two other occupants who were inside the vehicle were questioned by police and released.
According to Idaho law, Drug Trafficking charges are based on the amount of the drug found. In the case of marijuana, Marijuana Trafficking is charged with amounts one-pound of more.
Boise Police assist agents with the Probation and Parole in arresting a probationer found in possession of meth.
Arrested: Timothy M. Noland, 28, Boise
Charges: Possession of Controlled Substance-meth (F), Possession of drug Paraphernalia (m), Agents Warrant
What Happened: Boise Police were called to assist agents with Probation and Parole in a check of a probationer's residence, known as a fourth amendment waiver search, on the 10,000 blk of W. King Arthur in Boise at approx. 11:00 p.m. wed., March 12th. During the check, the probationer, Noland, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, and meth paraphernalia, including hypodermic needles and smoking devices. Boise Police arrested Noland on the above charges and took him to the Ada County Jail.
Boise Police arrested a man after he stole items from a north Boise grocery store, and verbally threatened store employees.
Arrested: Steven L. Guy , 50, Boise
Charges: Intimidating a State's Witness (F), Resisting and Obstructing Officers (m), Public Intoxication (m), Petit Theft (m)
What Happened: Boise Police were called by an employee of a north Boise grocery store at approx 8:13 p.m. Thurs., March 12th, who said store workers had caught a man stealing items. The employee said they had tried to detain the man while officers arrived, but released the suspect when he began to make threatening statements and make motions that made the employees think the suspect may be hiding a gun beneath his coat.
Store employees were able to tell responding officers the direction the suspect was seen walking his bicycle. As the officer went to approach the suspect, he made threatening statements to the officer and again made movements as if he were reaching for a weapon under his coat.
The officer drew his weapon and ordered the suspect to the ground. At first the suspect continued to walk on, continuing to yell threats to hurt and challenge the officer, however, the suspect eventually complied (Resisting & Obstruction charge). Officers searched of the suspect and did find an item taken from the store (a candy bar - petit theft charge). Store employees also reported the suspect had a bottle of alcohol on him inside the store, and the officers smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on the suspect (Public Intox charge). The Intimidation charge was made reference to the suspects continued verbal threats to both store employees and the officers, made before, during, and after his arrest.
Arrested: Christos Stratis, 48, Eagle
Charges: Burglary (F), Petit Theft (m)
What Happened: Boise Police were called by employees of a retail store on Milwaukee shortly before 1:00 p.m. Thursday., March 12th. The store employees told police they believed the suspect was coming into and out of their store stealing DVD's. Officers approached the suspect in the store parking lot. After investigating, officers found evidence the suspect had initially taken 2 DVD's, leaving the store without paying for them (petit theft), then returned with the intent of stealing several more (Burglary). The suspect was taken into custody and arrested on the above charges.
