02-02-09 Officers Catch Car Thief in the Act
Boise, Feb. 2, 2009 - Two Boise Police officers on patrol in downtown Boise observed what appeared to be a suspicious subject inside a parked car near 13th Street and Grove st.approx. 6:00 p.m. this evening.
The male subject, identified later as Steve C. Brown, 39, of Boise, was sitting in the driver's seat of the vehicle. One of the driver's side windows of the vehicle has been broken out and upon approaching the car, officers could see ignition wires had been tampered with and were hanging loosely from under the dash.
The owner of the vehicle was located and told officers that no one had permission to be inside the car, and that there had been no damage to the car earlier in the day.
Officers detained Brown based on the circumstances and after investigating, Brown was arrested for Attempted Grand Theft of the vehicle.
The officers were not dispatched to the call but just happened to observe the suspicious activity which ultimately resulted in the arrest of Brown, who it appears, was in the process of stealing the victim's vehicle.
