12-07-08 Drunk Driver Runs Into Home
On 12-7-08 at 2:16 am Boise Police Officers responded to a call of a traffic accident on the 1300 block of North 11th street.
Upon arrival Officers discovered that a Dodge Pickup had ran into an occupied residence. The occupants of the residence were asleep inside the home when they were suddenly awakened by a loud crash. A small child was sleeping very near to the impact point of the Dodge Pickup, however there were no injuries reported.
The Driver of the Pickup was able to back his vehicle out and was in the process of leaving when Boise Police Officers arrived on scene. The front license plate of the pickup had been torn off during the crash and was found outside the home.
The Suspect (driver) was identified as Benjamin R. Lister age 34. Lister was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail. He was charged with Driving under the Influence as well as leaving the scene of an accident. Both charges are misdemeanors
There is a lot of damage to this home said Boise Police Lieutenant Alan Cavener. The Heavy Concrete foundation prevented the pickup from actually making it inside the home. We are very fortunate that this vehicle was stopped before crashing inside an occupied residence. The result of a heavy vehicle running inside of a house while the residents are sleeping could have been tragic said Lieutenant Cavener.
There have been fifteen D.U.I. arrests so far this weekend. We are continuing to aggressively seek out and arrest drunk divers in Boise said Lt. Cavener. Drunk drivers are a definite threat to public safety. This crime is totally preventable. Adults consuming alcoholic beverages should make plan in advance on transportation and that plan should not include driving.
