Planning & Patience will help a Happy 4th!

    Boise, June 26, 2008 - Boise Police will help citizens safely celebrate America's Independence by monitoring traffic and parking, and patrolling streets during the city's 4th of July Parade and the popular city- and community-sponsored fireworks show.

    To make the celebration smooth and safe, Boise Police advise citizens to be aware of the following:

WE THE PEOPLE JULY 4th PARADE:

 

 

     

  • Parade start time: 6:30 p.m.
  • Estimated end time: approx 8:00 p.m.
  • Note on Route: Historically the 4th of July Parade has gone down Jefferson St. However, this year, because of construction on the Statehouse, the route has changed.
  • Route: Starts at 10th & Bannock, east on Bannock to 4th St, south one block on 4th, west on Idaho, ends at Idaho & 12th.
  • Road Closures:

        - Staging area: closed 3:30 p.m. - approx 9:00 p.m. - the four block area bordered by Jefferson & Bannock between 10th & 12th, Bannock to 13th St. 

        - Parade Perimeter: closed 6:15 p.m. until after the parade: A one block perimeter around the parade route: Jefferson & Main between 12th & 3rd Streets, 3rd & 12th Streets between Main & Jefferson. (13th Street will remain open.)

  • Parking:

        - Downtown parking garages will be open and free to the public Friday, July 4th.

        - Boise State University is offering the public free parking in the Towers lot and the Brady parking garage (areas on the west side of campus)

  • Other: Parade-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to enjoy the parade. If families bring coolers, please bring beverages in plastic containers, and please pick up any trash and place in receptacles.

INDEPENDENCE DAY FIREWORKS: 

    ANN MORRISON PARK - Sponsored by Boise City and Community Sponsors

    Fireworks begin - approx 10:20 p.m.

    Park Closure: Ann Morrison Park will be closed to motor vehicle traffic starting at 11:00 p.m. Thursday, July 3rd, all day Friday, July 4, until sunrise Saturday, July 5th.     The only exception, motorists entering on Americana Blvd. entering the park to pick up floaters will be allowed to make the loop to the playground. Security officers will be monitoring traffic at the park's entrances. 

    Handicapped Parking: available in the southwest corner of the Park off Americana.

    General Parking: 

        - Downtown parking garages will be open and free to the public Friday, July 4th.

        - Boise State University is offering the public free parking in the Towers lot and the Brady parking garage (areas on the west side of campus)

    Road Closures: Crescent Rim Drive will be closed to motor vehicle traffic July 4th at 6:00 p.m. until after the fireworks display. Closures will be Crescent Rim at Latah, Morris Hill, Kipling. Peasley, and Eastover. Homeowners and the neighborhood association have reported crowds trespassing on private property, leaving garbage, etc in yards, and requested to the city close Crescent Rim Dr. be during the fireworks event. 

    Other: Fireworks watchers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to enjoy the parade. If families bring coolers, please bring beverages in plastic containers, and please pick up any trash and/or recyclables and place in receptacles. Recycle bins will be set up along the main corridors of the park. 

    HAWKS MEMORIAL STADIUM - Sponsored by the Boise Hawks Baseball team and Community Sponsors

    Fireworks begin - after the ball game.

    Road Closures: Mountain View Dr. will be closed to motor vehicle traffic July 4th from 8:00 p.m. until after the fireworks at the stadium. Mountain View will be closed at Glenwood, Coffey, and Sorrento Dr. Homeowners and the neighborhood association have reported crowds trespassing on private property, leaving garbage, etc in yards, and requested the city close Crescent Rim Dr. during the fireworks event.

    Keep In Mind: Citizens planning to enjoy the parade and fireworks events are asked to keep the following in mind:

  • Be a good neighbor, don't leave trash on streets or in yards. Use trash receptacles in parks.
  • Don't park blocking driveways, stop signs, alleys, or intersection access.
  • Roadways will be crowded and motorists are asked to drive slowly, carefully, and be watchful for children.
  • Be patient. Everyone is out to enjoy and celebrate. Traffic may be heavy in places, particularly as people leave the fireworks displays. Please be patient and courteous as everyone heads home.
  • Have a Safe, Fun Independence Day!
