06-03-08 Overnight DUI - Drug Arrests
Boise, June 3, 2008 - Boise Police made several notable arrests overnight all connected to drug and alcohol abuse. Two arrests involve alcohol related accidents.
Suspect: Joshua O. Bynum, 28, Boise
Charged: Aggravated DUI (F), Possession of drug paraphernalia (m)
What Happened: At 4:00 a.m. this morning Boise Police were called to a traffic collision involving the driver of a Jeep Wrangler and a motorcyclist near the intersection of Overland and Orchard. Responding officers say the motorcyclist appeared to have injuries that appeared fairly serious, although non-life threatening. Officers on scene believe the motorcyclists helmet, which was severely damaged likely saved the rider, a Boise man in his 50's, from more serious injuries.
When officers spoke with the driver of the Jeep, Bynum, the found he smelled strongly of alcohol. The inside of the Jeep also smelled strongly of marijuana. Marijuana paraphernalia was also found inside the suspect's vehicle. After some investigation, officers arrested Bynum for felony Aggravated DUI (a felony due to causing the injury of the motorcyclist while apparently driving under the influence).
Officers investigating the collision say it appears Bynum was headed west on Overland and the motorcyclist was headed east. Officers believe Bynum made a left hand turn and collided with the motorcyclist.
Suspect: James Andrew Carlson, 22, Boise
Charged: DUI (F - two previous convictions within ten years makes 3rd arrest a felony), Striking an Unattended vehicle (m), Striking a fixed Object (m).
What Happened: Boise Police were called to a reported hit and run just after midnight this morning on the 1800 blk of Hervey St. Witnesses reported a parked vehicle had been struck. Officers later also found a speed limit sign knocked over, tire tracks on several lawns, and damage to a neighbors pine tree.
While on the way to Hervey St., a second citizen call came in from the 3100 blk of West Overland. The responding officers found two witnesses to the hit and run, both Boise men, had followed the suspect and were holding him until police arrived. The suspect had apparently left his pick up at the scene of the collision and ran away, but was tracked down by the two witnesses who heard the crash.
Responding officers found the suspect, Carlson smelled strongly of alcohol. He was taken to the Ada County Jail where a breath sample showed a blood alcohol level of .235.

After some investigation, the suspect, Kreider was charged with DUI and with providing alcohol to the minor. Kreider was also found with no valid driver's license and no car insurance. After Kreider's arrest, officers found his carrying knife, resulting in the concealed weapon while intoxicated charge.
