Boise, May 14, 2008 - Boise Police received a call of a vehicle burglary in progress early this morning. When officers arrived, they found several witnesses and the victim detaining the suspect.
Suspect: Robert Allen Cox, 19, Boise
Charges: Burglary (F), Aggravated Battery (F)
What Happened: At 1:52 a.m. Boise Police received a call of a car burglary in progress near Liberty and Morris Hill. When officers arrived they found three witnesses and the victim, all friends and young men in their 20's, holding onto the suspect. The suspect is a stranger to the witnesses and the victim.
The victim tells officers he went outside to get something out of a friend's car when he saw the suspect sitting in the driver's seat, apparently trying to pry out the car's stereo with a screwdriver. When the victim walked up to the car, the suspect, Cox, lunged at the victim with the screwdriver and began punching the victim. During the struggle the victim was injured, but he managed to get the suspect pinned to the ground. The victim called his friends, who then helped detain the suspect and call police.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officers on scene say it appears the victim suffered a head injury during the struggle with the suspect, as well as other injuries. The injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
