050308 Officer Injured in Collision
Boise, May 3, 2008 - A Boise Police Officer was injured last night when another driver turned into the path of her patrol car. Investigating officers believe the other driver had been drinking. No arrests or citation have been issued at this point, pending the outcome of evidence tests.
When: The accident occurred at approx 11:00 p.m. Friday, May 2nd, on Overland at Bird Lane.
How: The Officer was traveling westbound on Overland from Cole. She was driving Code 3, with emergency lights and siren on, behind another officer also traveling Code 3 en route to a call of a prowler in a residence. Both officers were driving marked Boise Police patrol cars.
After the first marked patrol unit passed Bird Ln, a driver in a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant attempted to turn north from eastbound Overland. The driver pulled directly into the path of the officer's oncoming patrol car.
Damage: The vehicles collided, causing extensive damage to both cars.
Injuries: The officer's injuries were serious enough for her to be transported to a nearby hospital. Fortunately her injuries are not life threatening. She was treated and released from the hospital early this morning. The officer will likely not be able to return to work for some time while she recovers.
The other driver, a 27 year old female from Boise was not injured.
The Investigation: Boise Police and Idaho State Police are conducting separate investigations into the crash. An Idaho State Trooper determined the Galant driver had been drinking.That investigation continues pending results of evidence tests.
