What Happened: Officers were called to Federal Way near the IHOP restaurant at approx. 10:30 p.m. Investigating officers found that a passenger car, traveling westbound on Federal Way had attempted to turn across eastbound traffic into the restaurant parking lot. The scooter was traveling eastbound on Federal Way. It appears the driver of the car tuned directly in the path of the scooter and the two collided.
The driver of the scooter was taken to St. Alphonsus Hospital. And although the driver of the scooter was wearing a helmet, Boise Police learned several hours later, he died of his injuries.
"The weather is warming up, the roads are dry, and not only will we see more pedestrians and bicyclists on the roadways, we'll also be seeing more people taking to the roads on motorcycles and scooters," said Lt. Stan Niccolls of the Boise Police Bench patrol Division.
"Motorists need to watch out for two wheeled vehicles, and bikers of all types need to always be on the alert for motorists who aren't watching for them," said Lt. Niccolls. "No one wants to be involved in a collision like this, and no one wants to get a call that a family member has been involved."
The accident is being investigated by the Boise Police Crash Team.
The name of the victim will be released by the Ada County Coroner following notification of family.
