01-30-08 IdahoIDme.org, New Web Site Aimed at Citizens to Help Solve Crimes
Boise, Jan. 30, 2008 - Local law enforcement agencies now have a new tool to allow citizens to help police solve crime;
www.IdahoIDme.org was unveiled today by investigators with Boise Police and the Ada County Sheriff's Office. Boise area detectives have contacted law enforcement agencies from Ontario to Burley to make them aware of the web site and to offer the page to any Southern Idaho or Eastern Oregon police agency who would like to add photos to it.
Citizens who log onto www.IdahoIDme.org will see a series of photos, many taken from security cameras, with images of people being sought by law enforcement. The people pictured may be suspects in a crime, potential witnesses to a crime, or someone who police believe may have information about a crime and are being sought for questioning.
"We've had a lot of success with identifying suspects or persons of interest with the help of the public," said Detective Wade Spain, a financial crimes detective with the Boise Police Department.
"This new web site is one more convenient way for citizens to give helpful information to their local police, information that may help solve or even prevent a crime." said Det. Spain.
If a citizen has information they feel will help identify a person pictured on IdahoIDme.org, they can e-mail that information directly from the web site. The e-mail is routed through the Boise City computer servers, and can be anonymous if no return e-mail is added by the citizen. The information submitted by citizens through the web site will be routed to the local agency that posted the photo.
www.IdahoIDme.org is modeled after a similar web site in the Portland area that Oregon police have deemed a success.
www.IdahoIDme.org uses a logo modeled after the Idaho red, white and blue license plate. The site has been added as a link from the web sites of both the Boise Police Department (www.boisepolice.org) and the Ada County Sheriff's Office (www.adasheriff.org). The site has already helped in the possible identification of one person, according to Det. Spain.
Other participating law enforcement agencies are being encouraged to add IdahoIDme.org as a link from their own sites. Media agencies are also encouraged to add the link to help promote public safety.
