12-20-07 Holiday DUI Patrols
Boise, Dec. 20, 2007 - Boise Police are taking advantage of a $5,000 state grant to help pay overtime for officers working extra DUI patrols now through New Years.
The grant means Boise Police will have officers on patrol looking strictly for drunk drivers every night of the week, with extra officers on patrol on the weekends. On a typical weekend night, up to 7 officers are working DUI patrol. The extra staff means up to 9 officers may be working DUI patrol, particularly on the weekend. These officers have specialized training in recognition, arrest, and prosecution of drunk drivers. The grant is courtesy of the Idaho Transportation Office of Highway Safety.
From January through November, Boise Police made 1779 DUI arrests.
