12-19-07 Bank Robbery - Vista Ave.
Boise, Dec. 19, 2007 - Boise Police are investigating the robbery of the US Bank on the 1100 blk of Vista Ave. that occurred at approx. 9:43 a.m. Witnesses tell officers the suspect entered the bank, pulled a device out of his coat pocket and indicated to the teller it was explosive. H demanded money, left with an undisclosed amount of cash, leaving the device inside the bank.
Officers evacuated the bank and a nearby bike shop as a safety precaution. Traffic on Vistas was also blocked between Kootenai and Cassia. The Boise Police Bomb Squad arrived on scene to inspect the device, which was determined to be a non-explosive made to look like a potentially viable device.
Because of the threat of an explosive, nearby businesses were slightly disrupted. Stores remained open, but customers had to enter from back or side streets. Local business employees and customers were very cooperative and patient with officers as officers worked to insure the area was safe. Once officers could insure the area was safe, traffic was re-opened on Vista at approx 11:57 a.m.
The search for the suspect continues. He is described as:
a white male, possibly in his late 40's, 6', 170 lbs., last seen wearing an olive green zip up hoodie sweatshirt, a fake grey beard and mustache, and wide rimmed dark glasses.
