10-29-07 Weekend Felony DUI's

10-29-07 Weekend Felony DUI's
Boise, Oct. 29, 2007 - Boise Police made several DUI arrests over the weekend, as is typical, however, two felony DUI arrests are of note:

    Suspect - Jason S. Broadwater, 30, Eagle
Charges: Felony DUI, Eluding Police (M), Resisting & Obstructing Officers (M), Driving Without Privileges (M)
When: approx 2:45 Saturday morning, Oct. 27th
Where: Neighborhood of Fairview & Cole

What Happened - in brief:  An Officer saw a motorist, later identified as Broadwater speeding westbound on Fairview and driving erratically. The Officer pulled the motorist over at Cole & Mitchell (one blk. S. of Fairview). As officer approached vehicle on foot, motorist sped off. Officer followed suspect approx half-a-block down Fairview when suspect turned onto Florence and into an apartment complex. Driver of the car (the suspect and only occupant) then ran on foot. The Officer followed him on foot. Suspect jumped a fence, crawled between the fence and a neighbors shed, ran, stopped at a gate, then began moving toward the officer. That began a lengthy struggle between the suspect and the officer in the neighbors backyard. That attempt to get the suspect into custody and the struggle lasted several minutes and involved the officer having to use his Taser three times, his OC spray, and his flashlight to try and get the suspect under control. Eventually, with the help of two other officers, one who also deployed a Taser, the suspect was taken into custody. Two officers were injured in the struggle with Broadwater. Paramedics were called who examined and/or treated all involved, and the suspect Broadwater was taken to the Ada County Jail.
After being taken into custody, officers found Broadwater has multiple DUI convictions from other states, as well as a revoked drivers license from a previous DUI conviction. Broadwater was not able to submit to a valid breathylizer test (as he was throwing up in the Intoxilyzer room) so officers, with the help of Paramedics, took a blood test to read his blood alcohol level. Results of that test are not in at this time.

Suspect: Dustin M. Degrange, 23, Boise

Charges: Aggravated DUI (F), Leaving the Scene of an Injury crash (F), Driving Without Privileges (M), Failure to Show proof of Insurance (M)

When: occurred approx. 2:10 a.m. Sunday morning, Oct. 28th.

    Where: 3800 blk Mountainview Dr.

What Happened:  Degrange is accused of being the driver of a car that reportedly was speeding west on Mountainview Dr. early Sunday morning when he lost control making a left turn. The car hit a large tree flipping onto it's roof. Two passengers inside the car with Degrange were injured, one passenger was trapped briefly, both were transported to a nearby hospital. Degrange ran from the scene. He was located at his home approx. 6 hours pater and arrested.
