09-25-07 Arrest Made, Property Recovered from BSU Thefts
Boise, Sept. 25, 2007 - Boise Police have returned a stash of stolen items back to Boise State University and arrested a student, now charged with stealing the items from campus.
Arrested: Christopher J. Gress, 26, Boise
Charged: 2 cts Burglary (F), 2 cts Grand Theft (F)
What Happened: Early Monday morning, Sept. 24th, an employee at BSU reported to the Boise Police BSU unit 4 video projectors had been stolen from BSU classrooms. A short time later, the BSU employee called officers again to report that projectors of the same type were being sold on eBay. Officers did further internet research and were soon able to identify the eBay seller as a student from BSU. Further on-campus investigation positively identified the suspect.
BPD BSU officers located the suspect's vehicle on campus where several stolen items were recovered. The suspect was then located on campus and arrested. More stolen items were recovered from the suspects home that included additional items belonging to the university, including a VCR/DVD player, a scanner and a file cabinet. Officers believe the items were stolen in two separate instances, Sept. 21st & Sept. 23rd. All the stolen items have been returned to the university.
"Heads up reporting from the staff at BSU really helped this case come together," said Lt. Doug Schoenborn of the BPD BSU Unit. "When BSU staffers noticed the suspicious items on eBay, our officers did some internet research of their own and were able to quickly identify and find this suspect. We're happy to get the projectors back to BSU and back to the classrooms for students."
