Boise, March 15, 2007 - Boise Police Detectives arrested two men early Wednesday morning and charged them with Arson in connection with a rash of dumpster fires around the downtown area since March 1st.
Prior to the arrests Wednesday, the officers actually witnessed the two men start a fire in a dumpster placed up against an older home at 4th and Grove Streets. The officers pulled the dumpster away from the building while the Fire Department responded so the flames, which were growing higher, would not ignite the home or an adjacent apartment building.
Several of the earlier fires were started in dumpster's also very close to buildings, including historic buildings at 6th & Main Downtown. Only a quick response by the Boise Fire Department kept these fires from possibly spreading.
Arrested: Jared Johns, 19, Boise - 3 cts. Arson
Arrested: Clifford Gunther, 23, Boise - 3 cts. Arson.
In all, 7 fires have been purposely set in downtown dumpsters since March 1st.
Boise Police Arson investigators say the investigation into the dumpster fires is continuing and more charges may be filed against Johns.
