Response to DOJ
Boise Police Chief Mike Masterson response to announcement that Dept. of Justice civil rights investigation is over and found no federal violations surrounding officer involved shooting Dec. 18, 2004:
“I speak for the entire department in expressing our appreciation to the Department of Justice for their inquiry into this incident and their finding that no further investigation is warranted.
This incident brought to light several difficult issues that we face as a society, as well as a city and a police department.
Our internal review has already led to some procedural changes involving evidence collection and handling. The department and involved community members are also moving forward with a study of a Crisis Intervention Team that we hope will result in a more comprehensive response to calls involving individuals struggling with substance abuse or mental health issues.”
