Boise, June 20, 2006 – The Boise Police Department in conjunction with the Boise City Community Ombudsman conducted a recent study of department use of the Taser. The Taser study was done as a proactive measure to conduct the first extensive review of Taser use within BPD, reviewing policy, training and practice, and comparing BPD use and policy to nationwide best practices and current technology.
The Taser study will be presented to the Boise City Council this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in the Bonneville Room of City Hall. Chief Masterson, Ombudsman Pierce Murphy, and Captain Jim Maxson will hold a press briefing on the study results just prior to the Council briefing. At the press briefing, the Chief will also display the Taser model currently in use by BPD and the smaller, newer model the department is proposing for purchase.
