Boise, April 12, 2006, 10:08 a.m. – Boise Police investigators are on scene of a fatal traffic accident this morning at the intersection of Maple Grove and Overland.
Officers responded to the call at 7:07 a.m. They found one man, the driver of a 2005 GMC pick up dead at the scene.
Officers say it appears the driver, the only occupant of the pick up, was headed westbound on Overland when the vehicle accelerated, ran through the intersection and up onto a sidewalk, then hit the sign to the Black Eagle Business Center on the northwest corner of Maple Grove and Overland. The truck then flipped, landing on it’s side in the westbound lanes of Overland.
Officers found debris from the crash approx. 70- feet away. Officers say that supports what witnesses said, that the vehicle was traveling at a very high speed when the accident occurred. Investigators say it appears the driver was wearing a seat belt.
Exactly what caused the vehicle to accelerate, causing the crash is still under investigation.
The identity of the victim will be release by the Ada County Coroner after the notification of family.
