Half-mile Foot Pursuit Ends in Arrest of Suspect

Boise, March 28, 2006 - After a long foot pursuit down the Boise River greenbelt, Boise Police arrested a man and charged him with trying to steal a man's car at gunpoint.

Arrested: Joshua J. Finch, 24, of Boise

Charges: Attempted Robbery, Resisting and Obstructing Officers, Destruction/Concealment of Evidence

What Happened: Boise Police were called to the 1000 blk of Royal Blvd. just before 6:00 a.m. Monday morning after a man reported that someone tried to steal his truck at gunpoint. The victim was able to give officers a good description of the suspect.

Moments later, a patrol officer spotted a man matching the description on the nearby greenbelt. When the officer identified himself, the suspect ran. The officers chased the suspect a half-mile down the greenbelt and onto the BSU campus near the Morrison Center. An officer assigned to BSU was then able to use his patrol car to cut the suspect off and apprehend him.

During the foot chase, the officer saw the suspect discard items along the greenbelt. Officers later found the handgun on the riverbank near Capitol Blvd. bridge.
